The Impact of Order and Disorder in the Doping of Semiconducting Polymers

Semiconducting polymers are the heart of the organic electrochemical transistor, a device used in wide range of applications from neuromorphic computing to bioelectronics and energy harvesting. The design of efficient devices relies on large modulations of the polymer conductivity, fast doping/dedoping kinetics, and high ionic uptake.
Studying poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) films, we showed that the ordered and disorded phases of the polymer are doped differently, and that each region has an important role in device perfomance.

This work was carried out in the group of Prof. Dr. Natalie Banerji.
